Planning application has been submitted for the final phase of the new link road between Hedge End and Bishopstoke passing through the Councils One Horton Heath development. Proposals include new mains services, utility connections, open space and green infrastructure. Final designs for the all-important road were shown to local stakeholders back in June and accepted by the planning authority on 27 July 2021.
The new road is a vital piece of local infrastructure. Designed to connect the southern gateway of One Horton Heath at Burnetts Lane to the northern gateway on Allington Lane the link road will provide a direct and efficient route for vehicles and confident cyclists travelling east towards Eastleigh and the M3 corridor.
The submission is the next stage in Council’s infrastructure first delivery programme. The design development has been led by the One Horton Heath team and is the result of three years of extensive consultation which helped inform the designs final preferred route involving the solar farm.
A big focus of the design incorporates features for safe travel. The proposals for the 1.2-mile link road include new transport facilities for non-motorised users and a proposed speed limit of 30mph.
New landscape planting to include native shrub and tree planting will align the route and enhance the local character.
Features of the proposed design:
A new dual carriageway link road with a 30mph limit between Allington Lane roundabout and Burnetts Lane roundabout.
Three new junctions to access the sites future residential and commercial areas.
New cycle and pedestrian facilities along the route to allow for safe travel.
Bus shelter provision for a new bus route connection.
New drainage and street lighting along the route.
The relocation of some solar panels to accommodate the road alignment.
Once complete the new road will carry all future development construction traffic to the site avoiding the village of Horton Heath. What happens next?
