New Allington Lane roundabout opens

New Allington Lane Roundabout

The team is celebrating completion of the £1.65m new section of road and footway/cycleway on Allington Lane delivered as part of the Council's commitment to infrastructure first on the One Horton Heath development.

Completion of our first phase of road infrastructure moves us a step closer to delivering on the all-important new link road connection between Allington Lane and Burnetts Lane.

The new roundabout unlocks the northern access route, known as the northern gateway, into the development allowing construction traffic direct access to the site avoiding the village of Horton Heath and keeping local routes flowing smoothly.

The completion also means a welcome boost to local facilities. For cyclists and walkers new shared footways along the new road and old Allington Lane sections are opening soon and the transformation of a 13-acre farmland area into a habitat rich, native planted informal open space can be enjoyed by local people in the summer.

During the 10-month build the team repurposed some 13,500 cubic metres of excavated soil to shape the landscaping and wildlife structures. Other ecological mitigation measures saw two wildlife tunnels constructed under the new road and six habitat ponds created in the new informal open space.

Alongside the ongoing Burnetts Lane and Bubb Lane works to the south of the site, the team are now preparing for the next phase of the link road - continuing the delivery of our ambitious infrastructure first approach.
