Here at One Horton Heath, we’re focused on creating a sustainable community built upon a foundation of ecological awareness and environmental preservation. Work to transform the landscape at One Horton Heath to prioritise both accessibility and environmental responsibility has already begun and we’re excited to share some of the exciting progress.
Through thoughtful planning, meticulous construction practices and support of expert local ecologists, we’ve already transformed several areas of the site to be dedicated primarily to diverse ecological habitats designed to support the unique needs of local wildlife.
Six ponds located near the north gateway entrance has already been built and alongside the preservation of woodland and hedgerows these maintained habitats are already attracting a growing population of great crested newts. Lush wildflower meadows and a captivating avenue of trees near the south gateway are also taking root, adding a touch of beauty and ecological benefit to the area.
But transforming a landscape isn't without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles involved the presence of bats. To ensure the bats well-being, the project team collaborated with Natural England to acquire necessary licenses and implement a strict construction schedule that minimizes disruption to their habitats.
Our ultimate goal is to create a lasting legacy where the community and the natural world live and thrive side-by-side. Stay tuned for further updates as the One Horton Heath project continues to transform the landscape and create a vibrant community space that prioritizes both people and nature.
