Three barn owl chicks born at One Horton Heath

Three barn owl chicks born at One Horton Heath

Three barn owl chicks have been discovered nesting in specially designed boxes at One Horton Heath, bringing a real sense of excitement (and cuteness overload)! Their arrival is especially important, given the difficult breeding season barn owls have faced across the country this year.

Barn owls, with their snowy white feathers and silent flight, are a much-loved feature of the local landscape and are sometimes spotted hunting at dusk in the countryside around Horton Heath.

Did you know? Barn owls don’t hoot like other owls - their call is a distinctive screech that can often be heard at night.

One Horton Heath has long focused on local ecology, including barn owl conservation, with ongoing efforts helping these protected birds and other animals to thrive. The discovery of chicks is a sign that these efforts are paying off.

Recent checks of wildlife boxes dotted around the site also found a Natterer’s bat and several active bird nests, including nuthatches and great tits. These findings highlight the rich variety of wildlife that continues to make its home here - and we couldn’t be prouder!

We're hoping to capture the baby owls on video - watch this space!
