One Horton Heath hosts police dog training

Hampshire Constabulary Dog Section has been making use of the One Horton Heath site to train and exercise.

Over the past few weeks, the One Horton Heath team have been thrilled to have PC Lance Plummer on site accompanied by his canine companion, Blaze.

Along with other colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary Dog Section, PC Plummer and Blaze have been making use of some of the site’s open spaces and empty buildings for training exercises.   The land provides the perfect place to walk and train 2-year-old German Shepard Blaze away from the hustle and bustle of public areas.

Speaking about the use of the site, PC Plummer said:

"The Hampshire Constabulary Dog Section are extremely grateful to Eastleigh Borough Council for allowing access to parts of the new One Horton Heath development site. Using disused buildings, large open spaces and dense woodland in a safe controlled environment allows our training to be closer to the real thing than in a traditional training compound.

“We have used the site to train various parts of our daily duties, including chase and detain, property searches and building searches. The large fields and open terrain have allowed for some realistic tracking practice which are often difficult places to find."
