Work has commenced this summer on the development’s innovative ground source heat pump network.
The network is one of the many ways One Horton Heath is ensuring each new home on the development’s first phase of 381 homes will be fossil fuel free and highly energy efficient. The technology uses thermal energy (from the sun) to heat the ground, which is then collected within a distribution network of below ground pipes providing a renewable heat source to heat pumps in the home providing 100% of the home’s heating and hot water needs.
Delivered totally below the ground level, early construction work on the ground-breaking system will see some 233 boreholes installed at depths between 70-151 metres. The technology will deliver a never-ending source of renewable green energy, protecting future residents against the volatile costs of traditional fossil fuel energy supply, such as gas.
One Horton Heath Technical Manager, Ross Blakemore described it as “an exciting milestone in our green innovative drive and a real boost to delivering low-cost energy supply for our future residents”.
