Go ahead for first new homes at One Horton Heath

Investing in new homes for everyone in the heart of Eastleigh

The One Horton Heath team are today 5 December 2022, celebrating securing planning approval for the first phase of new homes on the flagship development

The scheme, named the Lower Acre, will deliver 381 new homes of which 35% will be affordable. The new residential area will offer a mix of houses and flats for both private and affordable tenants and buyers and include First Homes.

Scheme features:

  • The scheme is the first of nine residential areas planned for the development, which is Master planned for a total of 2500 homes, a vibrant local centre, a primary school and sports field, three new commercial hubs and a host of connected spaces and habitat-rich areas.
  • Located at the development’s southern gateway, the Lower Acre will comprise of seven individually designed character areas delivering a variety of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed homes to meet local needs.
  • The new homes have been designed to be more than 10% larger than the Government’s optional size standards.
  • The permission marks a first step for the development’s side wide ambitious ground source heat pump and private wire network.
  • The community will be served by a range of sustainable transport links including pedestrian priority footways and cycleways, a new bus service route and car-club allowing drivers to hire an electric car without being tied to ownership.
The design for the Lower Acre follows in the footsteps of the locally informed and design-led placemaking Masterplan. A signature 4-storey building, with a living wall, will create a distinct entrance to the southern gateway.

Set alongside the new homes, an exciting new site-wide cycle greenway route will connect off-road cycling and walking links for everyone to enjoy. Some 660 newly planted native trees and an acre of green open space will make the Lower Acre one of the borough’s greenest locations to live in.

Reaching this milestone is the result of wide-ranging efforts over three years by everyone involved from the One Horton Heath team, the local community, local authority offices and other local groups.

Start of works on the Lower Acre is planned to commence in Autumn 2023 with a pre-construction period of four months. Ahead of the new homes being built, construction on the all-important final phase of a major new link road through the development will start in early 2023.
