Employment and Skills Round-Up Winter 2021-22

Eastleigh College supported internship presentation 

As a team, we are keen to encourage our supply chain to take on SEND learners in supported roles, and having hosted a supported intern at One Horton Heath during spring/summer 2021, we were keen to share insights from the experience with local education providers. 

This presentation, conducted with Eastleigh College towards the end of 2021, did exactly that:  

New additions to the Place Creators video library 

Two new career interview videos, featuring Health and Safety Manager Bryony Mitchell and Communications Officer Harry Usborne have been added to the Place Creators video library.

An additional 3 ‘Career Deep Dive’ videos have also been developed to further boost the Place Creators project as a resource for anyone looking into a career in the construction industry. 

Eastleigh College Industry placements join One Horton Heath project

At the beginning of November, we took on two industry placements from the Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction courses at Eastleigh College. The placement involves shadowing team members to learn about the design, planning and construction processes involved in One Horton Heath.

A look forward at some of the things that are coming up on the One Horton Heath Employment and Skills programme.  

• Video guide - “Making my work placement work for me”  Work placements can be a hugely positive experience that sets young people off on their career journeys. We’re developing a video guide featuring interviews with students and employers that will help students to make the most of their placements and ensure that the experience is as meaningful and valuable as possible.   
• Video guide - “Students: The value of volunteering"   Aside from benefitting the local community, volunteering is a valuable tool for students looking to enhance their CV. We’re creating a video with local volunteers to help convince students of the valuable skills and opportunities that students can gain by volunteering in their local community to enhance their CV.
