Seeing Horton Heath
through a different lens

Residents and visitors have been exploring Horton Heath in a different way through a series of free photography walks led by One Horton Heath’s Artist in Residence, Simon Bray.

The walks took place as part of Eastleigh Borough Council’s Walking and Wheeling Festival, giving participants the chance to spend time outdoors, explore the local landscape and look more closely at the things around them.

The sessions encouraged people to slow down, take photographs and share their own perspectives on the changing landscape of Horton Heath.

For some, it was a chance to discover places they hadn’t visited before, while others enjoyed looking at a familiar area in a new way.

One participant said:

“It’s really nice to just pause and look at the beauty aspect, but also to meet like-minded people.”

Another said the experience had encouraged them to get outdoors more:

“It’s always nice getting out in the fresh air and stretching the legs. I’m definitely going to go out and walk more.”

The walks also brought together people with different interests and perspectives, from photography and art to ecology and the future of Horton Heath.

“I think it’s been useful listening to everyone’s perspectives and you always learn something from other people,” said one participant.

Simon Bray is One Horton Heath’s Artist in Residence, working with the community and exploring the relationship between people, place and nature as Horton Heath continues to develop.

His work at One Horton Heath will continue, with further activities planned in the area over the coming months. These will provide more opportunities for residents and the wider community to meet Simon, get involved and explore Horton Heath in different ways.
