Community volunteers plant
400 native trees at Knowle Park
Volunteers recently came together at Knowle Park, Fair Oak, to plant 400 native trees, supporting local wildlife and strengthening green spaces in the local area.
The volunteer morning brought together colleagues from Fair Oak Parish Council, Wates Residential eastbrooke homes, One Horton Heath and Eastleigh Borough Council. Working side by side, the group planted a mix of native species, including oak, silver birch, crab apple and rowan across the park.
Native trees have been carefully selected for their ability to thrive in local conditions and for the important role they play in supporting biodiversity. Over time, the new planting will provide food and shelter for wildlife, improve habitat connectivity and help create a more resilient landscape.
To give the young trees the best possible start, rabbit guards and canes were installed during the planting. This practical approach will help protect the new whips as they establish and grow.
The activity is part of a wider partnership linked to One Horton Heath, helping to deliver environmental benefits beyond the development site. By involving volunteers directly, the day also provided an opportunity for people to contribute hands-on to the creation of greener spaces for the local community.
As the trees mature, they will become a lasting feature of Knowle Park, supporting wildlife, enhancing the landscape and providing benefits for future generations to enjoy.
